lightning striking agaaaaiin! Review flash

HAPPY FRIDAY!

inspired by the incredibly aesthetic and inspiring Jenny's blog,
here is a lightning round of mini beauty reviews!
i've tried a bajillion products in the past year and a half or so and was itching to talk about them somehow, but it didn't occur to me to put them in one post. a wave of relief is washing over me!!
 (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ

Etude House Dear My Blooming Eyes #OR201 Coral
I love the girly/sparkly colors and princess motif, but unfortunately this fella showed up to my house somewhat broken -- the inner eye corner 'sparkle panel' broke apart and SPARKLEVISION-dusted all of the other panels. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ From what I have been able to salvage, the colors are relatively subtle on their own after 1 application, so layering is key if you don't want more than a little bit of shimmer. Cute and great for 'everyday' makeup!

Etude House Eraser Show Line Remover Stick
This 'roll-up' stick contains argan oil and aloe vera leaf extract
and comes in a waxy, chapstick-like form that's good for spot removal if you're like me and screw up your eyeliner constantly (famous black spots on the bridge of the nose, etc.,) For best results sweep it on gently and then finish cleanup with a Q-tip. I've found it's easier to use it on small screw-ups that need a quick fix than overall eye make removal.
Etude House Eraser Show Mascara Cleaner
Yep, #2 in the Eraser Show series! The barrel is full of makeup remover, and the wand is just like a mascara wand that you can jiggle through your lashes to remove those pesky clumps so you don't have to rip out your lashes. I don't have to use this all the time but it's pretty efficient for disintegrating waterproof mascara. I worry a little about the hygiene aspect when returning the wand to the bottle, but I do try to keep it as clean as possible before replacing it.

Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base #1 Mint Choux
I was eager to try this version, since they switched the packaging from gross germ pot to tube! I am super pale with pinky undertones and was hoping this base would downplay the inevitable winter redness a bit. Unfortunately, it's a bit too light to have much of an effect other than giving me a slightly ghostly sheen.

Etude House Shini Star Clear Pact - #1 Peach
An OK, peachy pressed powder that's supposed to help with color correction. Doesn't wear for very long, though.

Etude House Tear Drop Liner #1 White Tear
Fine point, shimmery eyeliner for your inner corners for that brightening effect. A bit too shimmery for me, and peels off easily. I think I prefer a white matte pencil to this guy.

Etude House Lash Perm 3 step Volumecara (Brown)
Fun and gimmicky 3-step mascara -- you turn the dial to control the amount of product, coat 1, coat 2, coat 3! I haven't branched out into using brown mascara until recently but I've been enjoying this a lot, it's easy to apply, and definitely gives my eyelashes some oomph.
Holika Holika Aqua Petit jelly BB Cream 40ml #1
IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE ??? No, seriously, the jelly-like consistency is a bit off-putting at first if you're used to pedestrian bb creams, but it's kind of neat at the same time. It's heavier and does have a glossy sheen, and unfortunately is not as matte as I usually prefer. You do have to be careful not to overapply because it will peel off your face in weird rolls if you do, and I've noticed it resists some products like concealers, etc.

Kiss My Face Peaches & Cream Moisturizer
This is too heavy for my face purposes -- I have sensitive/combination skin that doesn't like moisture products --  but it smells AMAZING and just super real best tastiest peachy. Not overpowering, but delicious. I like to grossly slather myself with it when I get out of the shower. Great if you want to smell somewhat edible! Watch out for bees??

Maybelline Illegal Length Fiber Extensions Mascara (Brown-Black)
Illegal Length... but not a misdemeanor, nor a felony. Advertises '4 mm of measurable extensions ... break every law of lengthening!' the mascara goop itself is kind of fibrous and clumpy looking, but the results are pretty meh in my experience. I have to apply another mascara over one coat and then curl to get the look I usually like. OK for separating lashes because of the fine brush, but other than that, eeeehhhh.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Dramatic Look Mascara (Black)
Not as dramatic as I hoped, and tends to melt off with just a couple of stray laughter-tears (sad clown!) I guess my lashes need moar calories.

Mommy Makeup Brow Tint (Blonde)
Great, non-clumpy, natural brow tint, and I much prefer this to Etude House's overly orange-y version of similar substance, though I'm clearly not part of the target demographic??

NATURE REPUBLIC By Flower BB cream SPF35PA++ #1 bright BB
A smaller-size bb I got for travel purposes that goes on sheer but gradually mattifies. Very gentle with a soft fragrance, and good for cooler light skin tones.

Olay Wet Cleansing Towelette - Sensitive
The first pre-moistened face clothes that haven't broken me out like a mother, so cause for celebration!! Other supposedly similarly gentle products have all caused weird flare-ups on my face after continued use (Burt's Bees, Say Yes To) Non-scented and very gentle.

Skinfood Platinum Grape Cell Essential Bb Cream Spf45/pa+++ #1
I haven't been able to get ahold of my favorite mushroom bb, so I decided to try this from Skinfood instead. Good coverage, love the extra SPF, but the large cylindrical pump packaging makes it kind of difficult to travel with and the smell is a bit baby-powdery, which I don't like so much.

TONYMOLY Cats Wink Clear Pact - #1 Clear Skin
Cutest powder! Nice and mattifying.

TONYMOLY Latte Art Milk-Tea Morning Pack

This goes on under makeup, and you have to pat/smack it on your face. It supposedly helps 'wake up' skin, but I'm starting to wonder if it's the patting that's really facilitating that... the best part is that it's a great base primer for whatever you're going to put on top! Kind of grossly shiny if left to its own devices, so definitely meant to be a base base.

super shiny bigclothcraft ebay korean beauty haul~

AHA!
Yep, Korean cosmetics are still my boom...
I bought some ome tasty items from bigclothcraft on ebay, located in S. Korea.
I placed the order on April 11th, and per the DHL tracking info they weren't shipped out til the 24th, but they arrived shortly after on April 26th! (Holy momo, that's speedy!)
Shipping was also included with my order, and lots of samples~

 Packaging

Such cute packaging only made me more excited to see what was inside (even though I already kind of knew...)

TONYMOLY Clean Dew Broccoli Sprout Cleansing Cream

This cleansing cream does make my skin feel all nice and soft. It even has some sort of broccoli bits in it? You do have to massage in, wipe off, and then follow up with a regular cleanser, though, which is fine, but it does lengthen my skincare routine a bit. The presentation is so cute with the wiggly leaves, aww! It makes me want to collect them and place them around my room like tiny house plants.

TONYMOLY Pocket Bunny Moist Mist

This moisturizing mist great for spraying on before applying the daily BB. Mm, smells good too. And it's a bunny. 1000 points to your house, Mr. Bunny.

Holika Holika Pig-Nose Clear Black Head Steam Starter

Hrmm... now this smells really good, rather lemony, in fact. The ingredients are supposed to draw out blackheads and crud in your pores with a bit of friction from rubbing, but I'm so distract-able that it's difficult to constantly rub he product on for 3 minutes straight, and even if I can make it for that long, my fingertips and nose start going all weird and numb. Huhhh. I haven't seen much of a difference, but I do know this is part of a series of products, so maybe you need to use them all in succession to achieve best results?

Etude House Color My Brows #02 Light Brown

Just a nice little brow-scara! It goes on nicely but is a little bit orange-y. I have been mixing it with a brown eyeshadow to help match the color of my multi-toned hair.

TONYMOLY Cat's Wink Clear Pact #1

A cute pressed powder compact! Perfect in color and mattifying. I've been using it to set my BB. Mew!

Etude House Vanilla Moist Eye's Cream Whitening+Wrinkle Care

Eye cream... in stick form?! I'm skeptical about its ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles (though I am an extreme case in that regard since the skin around my eyes is so super thin) But it does feel nice going on, and does make my undereye area all soft and moisty.

TONYMOLY  Hello Bunny Perfume Bar #5 in Pom Pom Green Tea

This little guy looks so sad ;A; Don't worry, I'll set you free! Come travel with me, little one~ It's perfume, in convenient and portable stick form! The fragrance is nice too, it's green tea-ish with some fruity and floral notes, a nice, clean smell that's not too heavy. I like to carry it around with me and dab it on from time to time, it does make me feel a bit more awake, to smell myself smelling good. YEAHH.

day by day.... BB cream diary

4/17 Wednesday
YAHAAA! A new face, same place??
I've been using Clinique BB cream in 01 for two years now. It's been a good match for my sensitive/combination skin, but at $40 a pop and 2-3 tubes a year... yeah. Not what I'd call a sustainable habit, and it doesn't really blow me away enough to continue shelling out $$. My most recently purchased tube is bottoming out, so I've been shopping around for something new and found~~

Skinfood's Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream
It's about $19, ships quick, (from K WAVE USA) SPF 20 PA+, and advertises triple skin benefits of whitening, anti-aging, and sun blocking. I was mostly on the prowl for a cream that would suit my skin tone though, which is difficult to come by -- even if I hit the local drug stores -- since everything  too much on the warm side. Not being able to test it first, I was honestly a little anxious.

 Some off-the cuff observations:
  • The tube is slightly larger than the Clinique BB I'm using, but they both have the same amount of product. (1.7oz/50g)
  • Mushrooms are cute.
  • I'm having second thoughts, though. What if it actually smells like musty shrooms?
  • The lid seems to be made of cardboard -- it seems pretty sturdy, but I hope it'll hold up. Neat insignia on the bottom. The design of the entire bottle is pretty neat.
  • Will the 'whitening' component make me even whiter?
  • Is that font Comic Sans MS?!

It's too late to try the cream, unfortunately, as I've just showered and scrubbed off all my makeup for the day. I smoothed a drop on the back of my hand and it seems to blend well. It does look similar to the Clinique BB in terms of color and texture. It's very light, a bit shiny, and has a floral scent that starts off more juicy green plant-y. So it doesn't smell like shiitakes soaking in water or something...good! I was actually expecting something more earthy.

My Tonymoly Cat Chu Wink lipstick in #5 Red Cat came, too!!!!!! All I gotta say is ME-OW.

Well, g'night! I'm gonna take these for a spin tomorrow~

4/18 Thursday
Bike commute to work again. Chilly morning. Lots of sunblock as usual, moisturizer, and let's slap on dat BB.

Skinfood on the left, Clinique on the right.

It feels really nice. It's silky, smoothing, evened out my skin tone (which is pink and a little blotchy this morning, ew) and even though I was put off by the fragrance at first, it only took a few minutes for me to not be able to notice it at all. It looks to be a warmer shade on my face when compared with the Clinique BB, but when blended well this doesn't seem to be an issue.

Then the Cat Chu Wink...  TRIPLE THREAT!! Because 'double' just doesn't sound as good. Um, um, I gotta find something else for the third thing. OK, rabbit hoodie it is!!

YES

Not drying, cute pop of color, and doesn't highlight the flaws in my lips, which are numerous! Doesn't seem as if it will be long-wearing, though, and especially since I am constantly drinking water all day, I have a feeling reapplications will be in order. My biggest beef with this otherwise adorable and useful product is that the lipstick is just so damn hard to roll up! I played with the tube for five minutes until I was able to get the stick to pop up. I tried again and couldn't replicate my technique to push it up, so I just fiddled with it until it came up again somehow. I sure hope it isn't broken.

Before I head off, here's some easy listening cuteness for you:

I particularly enjoyed the comment by a certain YouTube user which read:

"Im a fucking punk!! So fucking punk!!!  Destroy everythi... OMFG Taeyeon is so fucking CUTE!!"
